Mazda CX9 SUV hits the Saudi roads

Abulhassan: The new car achieves the hardest formula in the automotive industry

Jeddah: Haji Husein Alireza and Co. Ltd., the exclusive dealer of Mazda cars in Saudi Arabia, launched the new Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV model. A press conference held for this purpose attended by Sheikh Amin Abulhassan, Chairman of Haj Husein Alireza & Co. Ltd., Mr. Y. Nakamine, Executive Director of Mazda Motors Corporation,  a great number of cars enthusiasts  and media representatives. 

The 2008 Mazda CX-9 received 10 awards from various competent bodies such as the 2008 Sport Utility of the Year Award from the Motor Trend magazine. The car, as well, received the highest possible ratings in frontal and side impact crashes by the governments’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In addition to receiving a five-star frontal and side impact crash-test rating, the CX-9 received four-star rollover resistance ratings. No other SUV on the market today has received ratings that are superior to the CX-9.

Speaking on this occasion, Sheikh Amin Abulhassan, Chairman of Haji Husein Alireza and Co. "

The Mazda CX-9 provides unique Mazda design and energetic performance as well as an up-market interior with class-leading space and unmatched versatility. The Mazda CX-9 rides on a 2,875mm wheelbase, one of the longest in the segment, providing easy access to its three-row seating. There’s ample room for adults in every position and sufficient cargo space to accommodate modern families. Under the sleek exterior is an interior that will impress demanding customers with its space, utility, versatility, and premium features.

An all-new 3.7-litre V-6 engine has been engineered to provide the muscle to move the CX-9 with authority. The new 60-degree short-stroke V-6 is state-of-the-art throughout. Advanced features include a die-cast aluminum block with cast-in iron cylinder liners and aluminum cylinder heads for minimal weight.

The valve train includes chain-driven dual overhead camshafts for minimal maintenance, four valves per cylinder with direct acting bucket-type actuators, and variable intake valve timing. A high 10.3:1 compression ratio maximizes efficiency and power output while the throttle is electronically controlled for instantaneous response. Two close-coupled catalytic converters cleanse the exhaust without inhibiting power.

A power peak of 204kW at 6,250rpm provides CX-9 with sparkling accelerating and passing performance. The torque curve shows a strong curve rising from 3,000 to 6,000rpm and peaking with 366Nm at 4,250rpm.

To combine excellent acceleration and high fuel mileage, CX-9 includes an Aisin-supplied six-speed Sports AT automatic transmission with manual-mode (6-speed Activematic) as standard equipment. Broad ratios maximize flexibility by providing enthusiastic launch acceleration with quiet cruising. The top two gears are both overdrive ratios, assuring highway mileage in the mid-20s.

Eighteen-inch 245/60R-18 tires are standard equipment on CX-9, while CX-9 GT rolls on V-rated, low-profile radial tires (245/50R-20). As a result, CX-9 looks and feels unusually nimble for its size and is the clear class leader for driving pleasure.

CX-9’s robust unibody uses the Mazda Advanced Impact-energy Distribution and Absorption System to help protect its cabin from deformation harm in the event of a collision. A combination of large-section members, some made from high-tensile steel, envelop the passenger compartment to absorb impact energy while guarding against intrusion.
