Are You A Fashion Victim Or a Fashion Heroine?

Fashion

No one likes to be told they're a victim. But when it comes to fashion there's a fine line being a fashion connoisseur and a fashion victim. How do you know if you've gone from being fashionable to fashion-unable? Here's how to tell if you've crossed that line from fashionista to fashion-victim.

One major sign is that you are simply spending too much money trying to keep up with the fashion fads.

Take a close look at your most recent purchases. If you own more than three items because they were pushed as the latest “must-haves” then you're a victim. These items may seem absolute necessities right now, but how long will they remain so? Take a look at the rest of your wardrobe for the answer. If more than half of what you own already looks “last season” or is clearly out of style then you've lost the fashion game. You're a victim.

How to save yourself? Each time you go shopping ask yourself why you are buying an item. Is it because you really like it and it really suits your style, or is it because the magazines tell you that you must have it? Answer that question and you are on your way to saving yourself from fashion-victim-hood!

But before you think you are saved, consider this. If you actually believe that you buy the latest trends because you really like them, you are probably telling yourself a little white lie. And if you are lying to yourself about fashion then stop, take a breath, read carefully.

Victims of fashion often feel they love what they are told they must have. You aren't the first or the last woman to feel this way. The world of fashion is so intoxicating and we all just love to look good that it's hard to draw the line.

But here's some advice.

1.Stick to just one trend at a time. Don't go for this trend and that trend, because there are simply so many of them, it's impossible to keep up. Decide on a trend and stick to it.

2.Drop the designer name. Don't call your clothing items by the designer name. Just call them what they are, black skirt, red dress, gold sandals. There's nothing at all wrong with wanting the designer labels, but just try to separate the label from the item. This will help you chose whether you really want to item or you just feel good about owning the label.

3.Forget the celebrities. Don't even bother trying to keep up with the celebrities, because they are dressing for a photo shoot or a show or a concert and that means that they'll be going for a big visual impact. Just think about it. What you see the celebrities wearing in a photo shoot, is not appropriate for you if you are off to work or even off on a first date.

Fashion victims follow trends blindly. Fashion heroines stop, think, decide.
