Is Your Wardrobe Out Of Date?
Have you stuck with a particular look or style for far too long? Are you in a fashion rut? We often find that we stick to a particular way of dressing because we don't need to think about it. It comes naturally, we are used to it, dressing that way makes us feel safe and comfortable.
Also, sticking to one style is good economics. You invest in a particular wardrobe and mix and match without too much extra spending. But this is not only boring, it's wrong. It doesn't take much to spice up an old wardrobe.
What you should do:
Keep your look up-to-date by altering the basic items in your wardrobe. Sometimes all I takes is changing your basic fashion items to create a whole new fabulous look. Add a new belt, or hat, or pair of shoes. Change the color of the top you wear under a jacket, or change the belt you wear with your favorite jeans.
You don't need to rush out to the stores and spend money on more and more clothes each season. If you look at your wardrobe creatively you'll find that almost everything you need for this season is already there. Sure, invest in a few items, but make sure you can match them with what you already have. There is nothing at all wrong with picking up the latest must-have or in-thing, but remember that it won't be a must-have for long. It's always best to try to work with what you have.
For example, why not try dyeing a top or t-shirt into this season's colors? You'll have a brand new fashion item that is cheap and fashionable, for a minimal cost. And you'll feel extra good because you did it yourself.
Always be aware of your wardrobe fashion choices and how long you've been wearing a particular outfit. It's so easy to become too comfortable with our regular and faithful clothing items, but being too comfortable makes us risk falling out of fashion.
Each new season set aside a weekend for analyzing the current state of your wardrobe and deciding on which fashion items can be restyled and which ones have to go.
But wait. Before you start throwing out the old stuff, make sure you know which fashion items are must-haves for all seasons. These are the classic fashion items that never go out of style. They may need to be restyled or accessorized in a different way, but they are your faithful and classic fashion basics that you must hold onto. Remember the little black dress? The classic denim jacket? The black slacks and jeans? Keep them! Never throw them out.
Now look at what else you have in your wardrobe. If something can be dyed or shortened or embroidered or restyled in a way that will make it look updated and new and in, keep it. Items that are too small or too big should be thrown out. There's no point in holding onto something that doesn't fit you well.
Now is the time to make a list of what new fashion trend you want to invest in. Chose one trend only for this season and invest in a complete outfit instead of odds and ends. Experiment, try something totally new. In this way, you will always be up-to-date.
